Global warming and ozone layer depletion keep raising UV radiation levels. Consumers now demand UV protection on textiles more than ever. Market data show that functional fabrics grew strongly in 2025. Demand for anti‑UV and anti‑bacterial finishing agents increased sharply. The market size for these segments is expected to reach 7.4 billion USD. In this context, giving fabrics effective and durable UV protection has become a key way for textile mills to add value. Lianzhuang technology developed TEXNOLOGY®UV PRO fabric anti‑UV finishing agent based on its own technology. It offers a professional, durable, and complete anti‑UV solution for many types of textiles.
1. What is ultraviolet (UV)?
Ultraviolet (UV) is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength of 200–400 nm. It has three bands: UVA (400–315 nm), UVB (315–280 nm), and UVC (280–100 nm). The ozone layer absorbs almost all UVC as it passes through the atmosphere. The UV that reaches the ground and affects people is mainly UVA and some UVB. UVA penetrates deeply into the skin. It is the main cause of skin tanning and aging. UVB has higher energy. It acts mainly on the skin surface. It causes sunburn and redness.
Regular textiles have limited UV blocking ability. For cotton fabrics, UV transmittance can be over 35%. The fiber structure and weave density alone cannot give enough protection. That is why adding anti‑UV function through finishing has become a mainstream solution in the industry.
2. The harm of UV radiation
A little UV helps the body make vitamin D. But too much UV brings many health risks. Long and strong UV exposure speeds up skin aging. It causes redness, pain, itching, and peeling. It also leads to pigmentation and can even cause skin cancer. Studies show that harmful UV wavelengths for humans are mainly 200–320 nm. The most dangerous band is 280–320 nm.
UV also damages fabrics. Long sun exposure causes fiber photo‑oxidation. This leads to yellowing, brittleness, and strength loss. It seriously shortens product life and harms appearance. For outdoor textiles, anti‑UV finishing is not just a functional need. It is necessary for quality assurance.
3. Definition and standard of anti‑UV finishing agents
An anti‑UV finishing agent is a functional chemical added to fibers or finishing baths. It improves a fabric’s ability to block UV radiation. It prevents material aging and skin damage. Textile anti‑UV performance is usually measured by two values: UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) and UVA transmittance. According to national standard GB/T 18830‑2009, a product can only be called “UV‑protective” if its UPF is greater than 40 and UVA transmittance is less than 5%. The higher the UPF, the better the protection. The highest label in the standard is UPF 50+. This means only 1/50 of the UV can pass through the fabric. The effect on humans is negligible.
Lianzhuang TEXNOLOGY®UV PRO fabric anti‑UV finishing agent uses benzotriazole compounds as its core component. It is a high‑efficiency organic UV absorber. You apply it by padding. The molecules embed into the fabric fiber gaps. When UV hits the fabric surface, the molecules quickly absorb UVA and UVB energy. They convert the energy into heat through an internal mechanism. This effectively stops UV from passing through the fabric. After treatment, fabrics can reach UPF 50+. Their average UVA and UVB transmittance is below 5%. This strictly meets the national standard.
4. Advantages and applications of TEXNOLOGY®UV PRO
4.1 Wide absorption range, excellent protection
The benzotriazole structure gives TEXNOLOGY®UV PRO strong absorption for UV light at 300–400 nm. The absorption is stable. It fully blocks UVA and UVB penetration.
4.2 Durable protection, lasts through washing
The product has good wash durability. After 50 washes or more, treated fabrics still keep strong UV protection. This greatly extends the functional life of the fabric.
4.3 No damage to fabric quality
It does not harm fiber strength. It does not change original hand feel or breathability. The fabric stays soft and comfortable.

4.4 Integrated multi‑function protection
Besides UV protection, it also gives fabrics good anti‑color‑change ability. It reduces fading and color change caused by UV. It also provides some infrared shielding. This reduces heat transfer and improves wearing comfort.
4.5 Easy process, strong adaptability
The product is a light yellow slightly transparent liquid or emulsion. It is non‑ionic and easy to dissolve in water. You can use it in dipping or padding processes. Recommended dosage is 40–100 g/L. The operation is simple, making it easy for mills to put into production.
Applications of TEXNOLOGY®UV PRO
It is widely used on children’s and baby clothing, sun‑protective clothing, sun hats, tents, umbrellas, outdoor sportswear, and many other fabrics. It provides complete, durable, and reliable UV protection.
