Nonwovens offer fast production, low cost, and wide applications. The global nonwoven market is expected to grow from $60.5 billion in 2026 to $88.6 billion by 2033, at a CAGR of 5.6%. China is already the world’s largest producer. In medical, filtration, and automotive sectors, demand is rising fast. Surgical gowns, drapes, and wrap cloths need higher functionality. However, ordinary medical nonwovens have clear weaknesses:
- Alcohol attack– 70% alcohol causes fiber swelling, breaking down the barrier.
- Liquid penetration– proteins in blood and plasma trigger capillary wicking, allowing rapid liquid passage.
- Poor hydrostatic pressure– large pores and loose structure cannot block water molecules.
These defects limit their use in demanding applications. The challenge for medical nonwoven mills is clear: how to give nonwovens alcohol, blood, and water pressure resistance while keeping their good properties.
What is “three‑proof” finishing?
Three‑proof finishing gives nonwovens resistance to alcohol, blood plasma, and hydrostatic pressure. The principle is reducing surface tension so liquids cannot wet or penetrate – a lotus effect. TEXNOLOGY®PA nonwoven three‑proof protective agent forms a dense barrier film on fiber surfaces, giving stable and lasting protection.
Three core advantages of TEXNOLOGY®PA
Advantage 1: Oil, alcohol, and water – all‑around protection
TEXNOLOGY®PA works on all fibers, including polyester/wood pulp spunlace and polyolefin spunbond nonwovens. It effectively blocks stains from penetrating. Treated nonwovens show a clear lotus effect.
Advantage 2: Excellent hydrostatic pressure resistance
TEXNOLOGY®PA is especially effective on polyester/wood pulp spunlace and PP, SMS spunbond nonwovens. It stops liquid penetration, meeting the high protection standards for surgical gowns and protective apparel.
Advantage 3: Good running performance
No roller sticking. Production runs smoothly. Mills can complete three‑proof finishing stably and efficiently, reducing downtime and cost.
Applications and process guide
Suitable substrates: PP, SMS, SMMMS, SSMMS, and other nonwovens. Works best on polyester/wood pulp spunlace and polyolefin spunbond.
Applications: Surgical gowns, drapes, wrap cloths, medical workwear, protective clothing, isolation gowns, and more.
Recommended process: Use padding. Dilute with cold water and add to a bath containing acetic acid. If mixing with other auxiliaries, pre‑dilute them first, then add TEXNOLOGY®PA last.
Three‑proof finishing has become a must, not just a bonus. TEXNOLOGY®PA gives excellent repellency, stable running, and safe, eco‑friendly performance. It is an ideal choice for medical nonwoven mills to add value to their products.
