Polyester shoe fabrics are strong, wear-resistant, and dimensionally stable. That’s why many shoe material plants use them for sneakers, casual shoes, and kids’ shoes. However, polyester fibers are hydrophobic with low surface energy. They repel water but easily trap oily stains like soy sauce, orange juice, or ketchup. These stains stick tightly to the fiber surface. Ordinary washing cannot remove them completely. So a Soil-Release Agent becomes the real game changer for shoe material plants.
What Does a Soil-Release Agent Do?
A Soil-Release Agent changes the fiber surface’s hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance. It helps stains release easily during washing. There are two main types:
Hydrophilic soil-release (fluorine-free): It increases fiber hydrophilicity. Water then penetrates between the fiber and the stain, rolling the stain away.
Hydrophobic soil-release (fluorine-containing): It gives the fabric water repellency. Stains do not penetrate easily, and they detach more readily in the wash.
A Real Test: How Two Soil-Release Agents Performed on Polyester Shoes
A shoe material manufacturer received a brand order. They needed excellent stain-release performance on polyester shoe fabrics. The requirements: test three common stains (soy sauce, orange juice, ketchup). Initial stain-release grade ≥4, and after 5 home laundries ≥3-4. Also, the customer wanted to compare a fluorine-free hydrophilic agent (Texnology®FCK002) with a short-chain C6 hydrophobic agent (Texnology®9094).
Our team ran a pad-finishing process: one dip, one nip (3kg pressure, 73% wet pick-up), then drying and curing at 160°C for 2 minutes.
Results (AATCC 130 & GB/T 8629):

Both Soil-Release Agents scored 4-5 initially.
After 5 washes and drying, both still maintained 4-5.
Both met the customer’s requirements perfectly.
Which Soil-Release Agent Should You Choose?
Texnology®FCK002 (fluorine-free) contains no PFAS. Therefore, it suits export orders that restrict fluorochemicals. Many shoe material plants now prefer it for its eco-friendly profile.

Texnology®9094 uses a short-chain C6 formula (PFOA-free). Besides excellent stain release, it also offers water and oil repellency. This adds extra value to the shoe material.

In conclusion, a Soil-Release Agent solves the sticky cleaning problem for polyester shoes. Shoe material plants can easily apply these finishes without changing existing processes. They get cleanable, durable, and high-performance shoe fabrics.
